Bangladesh Women's team slumped to a three-run defeat against Sri Lanka in a rain-shortened third T20 International at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today, conceding a humiliating 3-0 whitewash, reports BSS.
Chasing a modest 88 in a match reduced to nine overs per side, Bangladesh finished on 84-6, once again undone by a middle-order collapse despite a promising position.
Earlier, Sri Lanka posted 87-6 after being sent in, with captain Chamari Athapaththu leading from the front.
The left-hander struck a fluent 41 off 27 balls to anchor the innings on a slow surface, while also contributing with the ball later to cap a match-winning all-round performance.
Bangladesh's bowlers kept things tight, led by off-spinner Sultana Khatun, who returned impressive figures of 3-8 from her two overs to restrict the visitors.
In reply, Bangladesh never found sustained momentum. The opening stand was cut short early, but a brisk 30-run partnership between Juairia Ferdous and Sobhana Mostari briefly revived the chase. Juairia made 15 off 11 balls, while Sobhana added 21 from 15 deliveries.
However, the innings lost direction after their departures. With 32 needed off the final 20 balls, Bangladesh appeared within reach of victory, but quick wickets derailed the chase, leaving 14 required from the final over.
Captain Nigar Sultana reignited hopes with a six off the first ball of the last over, only to be dismissed on the following delivery.
