World Cricketers Association (WCA) chief executive Tom Moffat warned Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) regarding the non-payment issues in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League as he expects that best players of the world will not be available in the tournament if this trend continues, reports Cricbuzz.
The ongoing BPL season was hit hard by non-payment controversies courtesy Durbar Rajshahi that forced the government to form fact-finding committee for BPL payments.
On February 01, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, met with Durbar Rajshahi owner Md Shafiq Rahman at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday to address concerns over unpaid player wages in the ongoing BPL. Following the discussion, Asif held a joint press conference alongside BCB president Faruque Ahmed and BPL governing council member secretary Najmul Abedin where he insisted that they will take legal action if the franchises fail to clear the payments on time.
"We have formed a fact finding committee and they will find out how those who did not have the ability could come and participate here. I have spoken with the Rajshahi owner and I said that if you fail to pay it we will have to take legal steps," Asif stated in the presser.
"The image of the country was damaged due to one team despite all our efforts and who is responsible for it our fact finding committee will find it out later will we take action accordingly."
Nazmul, BPL governing council member secretary, admitted that they failed to get the right kind of franchises in the tournament.
"I think we have not taken the right decision as far as giving it to this franchise. The thing that we should have taken into consideration like their experience and financial strength we did not take that into account and included them as a franchise and that is the reason we are facing this difficult situation," Nazmul said standing beside Asif. When contacted, WCA CEO Moffat told the online sports portal that the tournament is losing its credibility to an extent that they might not get good foreign cricketers in future.
"We expect that leagues with non-payment issues will continue to lose access to the best players," Moffat told this website on Thursday. "It's disappointing to hear about more nonpayment issues in the Bangladesh Premier League, which has been a repeat offender over a number of years. " he said.
