Bangladesh made a miserable start in the ICC Women's World Twenty 20 as it lost to hosts and current champions West Indies by 60 runs in the opening day, reports UNB.

The match was held at Providence Stadium in Guyana on Saturday [Bangladesh time].

No one of Bangladeshi batters could reach double digits in the 14.4 overs innings to end with diminutive total of 46/10 - Bangladesh's third-lowest total in this format and the lowest ever of the Women's World T20.

Player of the match Deandra Dottin registered the third-best bowling figures ever - 5/5 in 3.4 overs - in Women's WT20s and the best figure for West Iindies women in this format.

Sent in to bat first, the West Indies faced accurate bowling and a committed fielding performance from Bangladesh innings and suffered batting setback, but no surprise from batting department before Dottin's attacks to defend a small total.

Kycia A Knight [32 off 24b; 2x4; 1x6], skipper Stafanie Taylor [29 off 44b; 2x4] and Natasha McLean [11 off 10b; 1x6] were double-digit scorers for the host side.

Among Bangladesh bowlers, spin all-rounder Jahanara Alam was the most successful with three-for 23 runs in four overs.

Pacer Rumana Ahmed [2/16], Khadija Tul Kubra [1/19] and Salma Khatun [1/21] shared four wickets.

In their remaining Group A matches, Bangladesh will face England (November 12), Sri Lanka (November 14) and South Africa (November 18) to a seat in the last four race of the event.

Bangladesh has not won a match in World Women's Twenty20 till date.

The previous lowest total in World Women's WT20 is also recorded by Bangladesh against England in Sylhet in March 2014. Bangladesh's lowest ever total in this format is 30/10 in 12.5 overs recorded at home against Pakistan women in October 2018.
