UNDER-19 WORLD CUP

Young Tigers face NZ in must-win clash today

January 20, 2026 00:00:00

Bangladesh Under-19 will take on New Zealand today (Tuesday) in their second match of the ICC Under-19 World Cup at Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, as they look to return to winning ways.

The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30pm Bangladesh time, reports BSS.

Defending champions Bangladesh suffered an 18-run defeat against India in their opening match, decided under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

Despite being in a strong position for much of the contest, the young Tigers let the game slip after losing their last seven wickets for just 22 runs.

In the rain-affected encounter, pacer Al Fahad picked up a five-wicket haul to bowl India out for 238. Bangladesh were initially set a revised target of 239 runs in 49 overs following rain interruptions.

The Bangladesh side reached 90 for 2 in 17.2 overs before rain once again halted play. After a one-hour delay, the target was revised to 165 runs in 29 overs, leaving Bangladesh needing 75 runs from 11.4 overs with eight wickets in hand.

However, they failed to cross the line.

Putting the disappointment behind them, Bangladesh are now fully focused on their clash against New Zealand as they aim to revive their campaign.

New Zealand, meanwhile, will also be eager for a win after their opening match against the United States was washed out, making today's encounter crucial for both teams in their bid to stay alive in the tournament.
