Zia finishes 13th in 3rd Kolkata Int'l Open GM Chess

Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman finished 13th in the 3rd Kolkata International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament, reports UNB.

The tournament ended in Kolkata of West Bengal in India on Tuesday.

Zia tied for the 7th to 18th places by earning 6.5 points from nine games after the final round and finally was placed 13th in the tie-breaking system.

In final round game, Zia beat IM Rahul Srivatshab of India.

A total of 205 players from 13 countries, including 27 Grandmasters, 2 Women Grandmasters, 29 International Masters and 7 Women International Masters participated in the event. Among other Bangladeshi players- FM Khandakar Aminul Islam, IM Abu Sufian Shakil and IM Minhaz Uddin were placed within the 100th, finishing 70th, 78th and 83rd respectively.

The three Bangladeshi players earned five points each from their nine outings apiece.
