October 13, 2019 00:00:00

Bangladesh will soon open a new deputy high commission in India's Chennai in addition to the existing two Deputy High Commissions in Kolkata and Mumbai, reports UNB.

The Indian High Commission in Dhaka said opening up the new deputy high commission in Chennai in the south-eastern part of India will "greatly benefit" the large number of people who visit Chennai for medical tourism.

Apart from its high commission in New Delhi, Bangladesh has assistant high commissions in Agartala and Guwahati.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina thanked her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for concurring to Bangladesh's request for opening a deputy high commission of Bangladesh in Chennai.

Meanwhile, Bangladeshi nationals who visit India on valid visas and fall ill during their stay in India are not required to convert their primary visas into medical ones for getting admitted to Indian hospitals, said the high commission.

All indoor medical treatment for the treatment of diseases (except organ transplant), if any, the foreigners may have been suffering from, even before his/her entry into India, shall be permitted on the primary visa, said the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
