BBS tops transaction chart

Bangladesh Building Systems (BBS) Monday dominated the premier bourse's transaction chart while Ratanpur Steel Re-rolling Mills (RSRM) was the most-traded issue on the port city's bourse.

Five most-active shares in terms of value on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) were Bangladesh Building Systems, DESCO, Beximco, Active Fine Chemicals and Singer Bangladesh.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 10.27 million shares of BBS were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 572 million on the day. It was 3.95 per cent of the premier bourse's total turnover value.

Each share of the pre-engineered steel buildings structure manufacturer, which was listed on the bourses in 2013, hovered between Tk 52.10 and 57.20, before closing at Tk 56.20 on Monday, advancing 8.08 per cent over the previous day.

The company's first quarter (Q1) earnings per share (EPS) stood Tk 0.85 for July-September, 2016 as against Tk 0.54 for July-September, 2015.

The board of directors of the company has also decided to withdraw the rights issue application from securities regulator due to favorable financing proposal from other source to meet up the cost of business expansion of the company.

The board of directors has recommended 5.0 per cent cash dividend (excluding sponsors) and 10 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2016.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1,059.84 million and authorised capital is Tk 1,500 million while the total number of securities is 105,984,000. The company's total market cap stood at Tk 6,062.28 million as on Monday.

The sponsor-directors own 31.95 per cent stake in the BBS, while institutional investors own 33.22 per cent, foreigners 0.09 per cent and the general public 34.74 per cent as on November 30, 2016, the DSE data shows.

BBS was, closely followed by DESCO with about 10.27 million shares worth Tk 484 million changing hands. The state-run company's share price closed at Tk 47.10 each, gaining 1.29 per cent over the previous day.

Beximco was the third with 12.44 million shares of Tk 338 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 4.56 per cent to close at Tk 27.50 each.

Active Fine emerged as fourth with about 6.42 million shares of Tk 292 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 45.50 each, advancing 3.41 per cent.

Singer Bangladesh was the fifth on the DSE's turnover list with 1.26 million shares of Tk 254 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 2.18 per cent to close at Tk 201.90 each on the premier bourse.

Besides, five most-traded stocks in terms of value on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) were Ratanpur Steel Re-rolling Mills, Beximco, Bangladesh Steel Re-rolling Mills, National Bank and Aramit Cement.

According to statistics available with the CSE, about 464,098 shares of RSRM were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 37.61 million on the day. The steel maker's share price closed at Tk 80 each, advancing 0.25 per cent over the previous day on the CSE.

Beximco was the second with 1.35 million shares worth Tk 36.72 million changing hands. The company's price rose 4.18 per cent to close at Tk 27.50 each.

BSRM was the third with about 271,877 shares of Tk 36.24 million changing hands. The Chittagong-based company's share price closed at Tk 133.90, gaining 3.78 per cent.

National Bank emerged as fourth with 2.58 million shares worth Tk 29.48 million changing hands. The bank's share price rose 2.70 per cent to close at Tk 11.30 each.

Aramit Cement was the fifth on the CSE's turnover list with 541,524 shares of Tk 24.48 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 9.78 per cent to close at Tk 44.90 each on the port city's bourse.
