Chinese company KMK Industrial Limited is set to establish an airplane amenity bag and kit manufacturing industry, the first of its kind in the BEPZA Economic Zone.
The company signed a land lease agreement with the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) in this regard at the BEPZA office in Dhaka recently, says a press statement.
The agreement will see an initial investment of US$ 18.60 million by KMK Industrial Limited. The company will start by manufacturing airplane amenity bags and gradually expand its production to include a range of in-house items such as socks, garments, accessories, cosmetics, and selected electronics, including headphones and USB cables.
This venture is expected to generate 1,231 jobs for Bangladeshi nationals, contributing to the local economy and providing new employment opportunities in the manufacturing sector.
The agreement was signed by Md. Ashraful Kabir, Member (Investment Promotion) of BEPZA, and Wu Yuxiang, Chairman of KMK Industrial Limited in the presence of BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman.
Speaking at the event, the BEPZA executive chairman expressed his gratitude to KMK Industrial Limited for choosing the BEPZA Economic Zone as their investment destination.
He also reaffirmed BEPZA's commitment to providing full support to ensure smooth business operations.
"This project represents a milestone in our continuous effort to diversify export-oriented industries. We strongly encourage investors to develop in-house production capacity and source materials from local enterprises, thereby strengthening both industry and the national economy," he said.
This new venture marks a significant step in diversifying Bangladesh's industrial base and expanding the range of products manufactured within BEPZA zones.
Senior officials from BEPZA and representatives from KMK Industrial Limited were present during the ceremony.
