A delegation of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Investors Association (BEZIA) held a meeting with Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), at a city hotel on Tuesday, says a statement.
Led by BEZIA President MA Jabbar, the delegation members expressed grave concerns regarding the recent imposition of tariffs by the US and the increase in gas prices by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC).
They urged the government to review these decisions, highlighting the potential negative impacts on investment, production costs, and export competitiveness.
The delegation members included Vice Presidents of the association Sharif Zahir and Rupali H. Chowdhury.
The association emphasised the need to ensure uninterrupted and high-quality electricity and high-pressure gas supply across economic zones.
The association leaders also called for allowing the establishment of captive power plants where necessary to maintain operational reliability.
They urged the government to waive service charges from utility providers and facilitate making leased lands bankable to ease financing for investors.
They also sought exemption of the 3% tax on LC payments for polyester yarn, which is crucial for the textile and garment sector.
Ashik Chowdhury assured the delegation that BEZA would actively engage with the relevant authorities to address these issues in a constructive and collaborative manner.
