BSC generates highest turnover

The company recommends 10pc cash dividend

Ten most traded companies captured 32 per cent transactions on the prime bourse on Wednesday, with the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) generating the highest turnover.

Market insiders said investors were active on BSC shares throughout the session following its corporate declarations.

The state-run company has recommended 10 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2019, said an official disclosure on Wednesday.

According to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) data, about 4.04 million shares of BSC were traded, generating a turnover of 214 million, which was 6.59 per cent of the day's total turnover of Tk 3.24 billion.

The company's share closed at Tk 52 each on Wednesday, losing 1.52 per cent over the previous day.

The corporation has also reported earnings per share (EPS) of Tk 3.62, net asset value (NAV) per share of Tk 56.95 and net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) of Tk 4.80 for the year ended on June 30, 2019 as against Tk 0.82, Tk 53.61 and Tk 1.45 respectively for the same period of the previous year.

The BSC, which was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 1977, disbursed 6.0 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1.52 billion and authorised capital is Tk 10 billion, while the total number of securities is 152.53 million.

The government owns 52.10 cent stake in the company while the institutional investors own 13.09 per cent and the general public 34.81 per cent as on August 31, 2019, the DSE data shows.

National Tubes came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 136 million changing hands. The company's share fell 3.69 per cent to close at Tk 182.70 each.

Summit Power clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 130 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 41.30 each, shedding 0.48 per cent.

Grameenphone emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 97 million changing hands. The GP's share price fell 1.20 per cent to close at Tk 328.10 each.

Standard Ceramic notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 89 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 568.10 each, losing 7.35 per cent.

The turnover of Fortune Shoes was Tk 76 million. The company's share closed at Tk 28.20, advancing 1.81 per cent.

The Monno Jute Stafflers featured a turnover of also Tk 76 million. The company's share closed at Tk 1,485.30 each, gaining 0.58 per cent.

The turnover of Square Pharma was Tk 73 million. The company's share price fell 0.75 per cent to close at Tk 238.50 each.

Paramount Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 68 million. The company's share closed at Tk 25.20, soaring 5.0 per cent.

Monno Ceramic also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 69 million changing hands. Its share price shed 3.50 per cent to close at Tk 171.10 each.
