Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin said on Thursday that the prices of commodities are stable even on downtrend during the holy month of Ramadan, reports BSS.

The Commerce Adviser made this remark while addressing an Imam and Khatib gathering and Iftar mahfil held at the Jamia Madania Baridhara Madrasah Auditorium in the capital organized by the Dhaka Metropolitan unit of the Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, said a press release.

He mentioned that one of the main reasons for student-led mass uprising on August 5, 2024 was inequality in resources while the role of 'Hasana' and 'Zakat' are important in Islamic model.

"Through Zakat, the balanced distribution of resources will be ensured while poverty rate will reduce further," he added.

Citing that Zakat will discourage illegal stockpiling of goods, the Commerce Adviser said that the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) conducts an operation amounting to Taka 12,000 crore per year where the government provides a subsidy of Taka 4,000 crore.

He also called upon the religious leaders irrespective of all region to become associated in scrutinizing the one crore marginal family beneficiaries of TCB. Presided over by president of Dhaka Metropolitan unit of the Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Muhammad Junaed Al Habib, general secretary Muhammad Mamunul Haque, other party leaders, Khatibs and Imams of various mosques attended the event.
