CSBIB holds general meeting

The 40th general meeting of the Central Shariah Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh (CSBIB) was held at the Board Room of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited in the city on Thursday, with CSBIB chairman Mufti Dr Muhammad Abdullah in the chair

The 40th general meeting of the Central Shariah Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh (CSBIB) was held at the Board Room of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited in the city on Thursday, said a statement.

Mufti Dr Muhammad Abdullah, Chairman of CSBIB, presided over the meeting and its Secretary General Md Abdullah Sharif moderated it.

Shah Abdul Hannan, Advisor of Central Shariah Board, M Azizul Huq, Chairman of the CSBIB Executive Committee, Prof Md Nazmul Hassan, Chairman of Islamic Banks Consultative Forum (IBCF) as well as Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, Prof Md Anwarul Azim Arif, Chairman of Social Islami Bank Limited, Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, Chairman of Islamic Finance and Investment Limited, Rumee A Hossain, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Bank Asia Limited, Prof. Dr. M. Shamsher Ali, Chairman of Shariah Supervisory Committee of The Premier Bank Limited, attended the meeting.

The meeting stressed the need for compliance of shariah in all fields of banking operations properly.

Besides, issues related to Central Shariah Board were discussed in the meeting.

The participants expressed satisfaction with the programmes implemented by CSBIB and called for taking up more such programs.

The meeting finally approved the annual plan of actions and annual budget of Central Shariah Board for the year 2020.

It also appreciated the board's Executive Committee and General Secretariat for introducing Certified Islamic Professional Accountant (CIPA) course and Certified Shariah Adviser & Auditor (CSAA) course in Bangladesh as an education partner of Bahrain-based Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) and taking up joint programmes (views-exchange, training and workshop) with Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM).

Chairmen of the boards of directors, Managing Directors, Chairmen of Shariah Supervisory Committees/Councils and their Member Secretaries of 23 member institutions, namely Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, Al-Arafah Islami Bank, Social Islami Bank, Shahjalal Islami Bank, Export Import Bank of Bangladesh, ICB Islamic Bank, First Security Islami Bank, AB Bank, Dhaka Bank, Jamuna Bank, Prime Bank, The City Bank, The Premier Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Southeast Bank, Agrani Bank, Bank Asia, Pubali Bank, Standard Bank, Trust Bank, Bank AL-Falah, Mutual Trust Bank Ltd. and Islamic Finance and Investment Limited, and researchers were present at the meeting.
