Dragon Sweater leads turnover, gainer charts

Top 10 cos snare 34pc transaction on DSE

The top 10 traded companies, including three banks, captured 34 per cent transaction of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Tuesday while Dragon Sweater dominated the turnover and gainer chart.

Brokers said the Dragon Sweater grabbed the top position in turnover and gainer chart as the company showed 54.76 per cent growth in October-December period of 2017.

The textile company Monday disclosed the second quarter (Q2) earnings for October-December 2017 period. As per un-audited Q2 financial reports, the company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.65 for October-December period of 2017 as against Tk 0.42 in the same period a year ago.

In six months for July-December of 2017, the company's EPS was Tk 1.11 as against Tk 0.89 for July-December, 2016.

"The investors showed higher enthusiasm surrounding Dragon Sweater throughout session, taking the issue topped turnover and gainer chart," said analyst.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 3.89 billion on the Dhaka bourse on the day, which was 4.18 per cent lower than the previous session's turnover of Tk 4.06 billion.

Dragon Sweater, Square Pharmaceuticals, City Bank, National Bank, Shahjalal Islami Bank, BD Thai Aluminium, IFAD Autos, United Power, Grameenphone and National Tubes were the most-active shares in terms of value on the DSE.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 9.98 million shares of Dragon Sweater were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 217 million, which was 5.58 per cent of the premier bourse's total transaction.

The textile sector company's share price hovered between Tk 20.50 and Tk 22.30, before closing at Tk 22.30, soaring 9.85 per cent over the previous day. It was also the day's top gainer.

Square Pharmaceuticals closely followed next, with shares of Tk 216 million changing hands. The second largest market cap listed company's share price advanced 0.58 per cent to close at Tk 310.40.

City Bank notched the third spot, with shares of Tk 144 million changing hands. The bank's share price ended 0.24 per cent higher at Tk 46.70.

National Bank emerged the fourth with shares of Tk 138 million changing hands. The bank's share price settled at Tk 13, soaring 4.0 per cent over the day before.

Shahjalal Islami Bank featured a turnover of Tk 133 million. The bank's share price advanced 5.45 per cent to close at Tk 29.

The turnover of BD Thai was Tk 126 million. The engineering sector company's share price closed at Tk 31.30, soaring 3.30 per cent.

IFAD Autos featured a turnover of Tk 106 million. The company's share price fell 0.07 per cent to close at Tk 130.40.

The turnover of United Power Generation & Distribution Company was Tk 98 million. The power generation company's share price advanced 1.40 per cent to finish at Tk 166.

Grameenphone, the largest market listed company featured a turnover of Tk 73 million. The lone listed mobile operator's share price closed at Tk 479.80, advancing 1.31 per cent.

National Tubes also made its way to the top ten turnover chart, with shares of Tk 61 million changing hands. Its share price closed 0.80 per cent higher at Tk 137.70.
