Engineering sector accounts for 16.77pc in 2016 turnover

Investors' participation was mostly concentrated on engineering sector which had highest contribution in monthly average turnover featured by the premier bourse in 2016.

According to information of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the premier bourse featured transactions for 241 days and the daily average turnover was above Tk 4.94 billion.

The contribution of 33 companies of engineering sector was 16.77 per cent in turnover, whereas the fuel & power sector secured second position by contributing 14.23 per cent in turnover value featured by the DSE.

The monthly turnover of engineering sector varied Tk 9.37 billion Tk 17.80 billion in 2016.

Out of 33, 16 issued bonus dividend in 2016, according to DSE officials.

The market prices of many companies of engineering sector witnessed price hikes in 2016.

Among the rising companies of engineering sector, the market price of Bangladesh Building Systems rose to Tk50.30 from Tk 39, Aziz Pipes to Tk 70.70 from Tk 36, Appollo Ispat Complex to Tk 21.30 from Tk 17.50, BD Autocars to Tk 74.60 from Tk 36.50 and NAVANA CNG to Tk 72.90 from Tk 50.

Among other sectors, the contribution of fuel & power in turnover was 14.23 per cent, pharmaceuticals & chemicals 13.92 per cent, textile 10.94 per cent, bank 8.87 per cent, financial institutions 6.38 per cent and miscellaneous 5.60 per cent.

Food & Allied sector contributed 5.51 per cent in market turnover, cement 3.60 per cent, IT 2.34 per cent, Insurance 2.30 per cent, Service & Real Estate 2.14 per cent and Telecommunication 1.87 per cent.

The contribution of travel & leisure, tannery, ceramics, mutual fund, Jute, paper & printing, and corporate bond was within the range of 0.01 per cent to 1.40 per cent.
