Fortune Shoes shines out on weekly turnover list

Ten cos grab one-third of DSE transactions

Ten most-traded stocks accounted for over one-third of weekly transactions, with Fortune Shoes making it way to the top of the turnover list of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in the outgoing week.

Market operators said investors showed their buying interest for the shares of Fortune Shoes after the company reported an impressive earnings growth in recent quarters.

According to statistics available with the DSE, some 26.64 million shares of Fortune Shoes were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 3.66 billion, which is 7.81 per cent of the week's total turnover.

The company's share closed at Tk 142.80 on Thursday, gaining 12.80 per cent over the week before. Its shares traded between Tk 15.90 and Tk 145.80 in the last one year.

Fortune Shoes is also witnessing an unprecedented price hike and an increase in the volume of shares being traded although there is no undisclosed price sensitive information.

The company's share price jumped over 745 per cent or Tk 125.90 each in the last one year since April 1, 2021, the DSE data showed.

Fortune Shoes posted a massive 276 per cent increase in its second quarter (Q2) earnings for October-December, 2021 compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) jumped to Tk 0.79 for October-December 2021, as against Tk 0.21 in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The shoemaker's EPS for six months also rose to Tk 2.08 for July- December 2021, by a whopping 220 per cent, from Tk 0.65 in the corresponding period.

Beximco came second on the weekly turnover list, with shares worth Tk 2.62 billion changing hands. The company's share price fell 2.86 per cent to close at Tk 153.10 each on Thursday.

Genex Infosys clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 1.90 billion changing hands. The IT Company's share closed at Tk 124.10, losing 0.72 per cent.

Sonali Paper & Board Mills emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 1.73 billion changing hands. The company's share price surged 7.68 per cent to close at Tk 876.40 each on Thursday.

LafargeHolcim Bangladesh notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 1.27 billion changing hands. The cement maker's share closed at Tk 75, gaining 4.02 per cent over the previous week.

Orion Pharma featured a turnover of Tk 1.23 billion. The company's share price dropped by 3.10 per cent to close at Tk 103.30 each on Thursday.

The turnover of BDCOM Online was Tk 1.21 billion. The company's share price advanced 0.24 per cent to close at Tk 41 each.

Premier Bank featured a turnover of Tk 858 million. The bank's share closed at Tk 16.60 each, shedding 4.05 per cent.

The turnover of Bangladesh Lamps was Tk 818 million. The company's share rose 11.81 per cent to close at Tk 352.30 each.

Aamra Technologies also made its way to the week's top turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 717 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 40.50 each, losing 3.11 per cent.
