Global Sourcing Expo ends

The three-day Global Sourcing Expo-2025 Dhaka, the first of its kind in Bangladesh, concluded at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre (Big Wave) in Purbachal on Wednesday.
Mohammad Hassan Arif, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), presided over the closing ceremony, while Baby Rani Karmakar, Director General of EPB, made the welcome address. Guests of honour included Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, Executive Vice-President of BKMEA; Selim H. Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Furniture Owners Association; and Shamim Ahmed, President of BPGMEA.
Guests at the event appreciated the government initiative to host such an international sourcing expo to attract the global buyers. They suggested arranging such expo in the future and also expressed their support for that.
In his speech, the EPB Vice-Chairman said this year's sourcing expo had several limitations as there was not enough time to be prepared. The EPB plans to organise such world-class sourcing expos on a regular basis in days to come.
This year, a total of 125 companies set up 165 stalls. More than 100 international buyers from 14 countries held meetings with local firms and visited their stalls and factories.
During the expo, six seminars on different sectors and thematic issues and 238 B2B meetings were held. According to EPB officials, participating companies received confirmed orders worth US$311,000, while proposals amounting to US$372,000 are currently under consideration.
At the closing ceremony, awards were presented to the best-performing companies in eight categories. The winners are PRAN-RFL Group in agriculture and agro-processing category; Shishu Paribahan in apparel; HATIL in furniture and home décor; Digi Infotech in IT and IT services; Planet Care in jute and jute goods; LFM EAB in leather and leather products; Radiant in pharmaceuticals; and Bengal Plastic in plastic and kitchenware.
