GP leads DSE turnover chart

Grameenphone dominated the Dhaka bourse's transaction chart Tuesday while top 10 traded companies accounted for 32 per cent value.

Brokers said investors were active on shares of the largest market-cap listed company almost throughout the trading session despite the market overall witnessed a sharp decline.

An analyst said that when the market went through a correction mood; a section of the investors took position on fundamentally sound stocks like GP to protect their investment.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 706,150 shares of GP were traded, generating a turnover worth nearly Tk 330 million, which was 10.60 per cent of the premier bourse's total transactions on the day.

The leading mobile phone operator's share price hovered between Tk 465.90 and Tk 470 each, before closing at Tk 467.20, inching down by 0.19 per cent over the previous session.

Meanwhile, the company's board of directors decided to hold an extraordinary general meeting on April 19 for the amendment of the object clauses of the memorandum of association of the company, subject to the approval of the shareholders in the EGM and necessary permissions.

The company recommended 100 per cent final cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2017 and the total dividend for the year 2017 will be 205 per cent as the company already paid 105 per cent interim cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2017.

Apart from GP, the most other active shares in terms of value included Square Pharmaceuticals, Mercantile Bank, Salvo Chemical Industries, Aamra Networks, Queen South Textile, Monno Ceramic Industries, BBS Cables, Brac Bank and United Power.

Square Pharma followed next with shares worth Tk 308.20 million changing hands. The second largest market cap company's share price closed at Tk 308.20 each, falling 1.22 per cent over the previous day.

Mercantile Bank notched the third spot, with shares of Tk 95 million changing hands. The bank's share price fell 3.27 per cent to close at Tk 20.70 each.

Salvo Chemical emerged as fourth with shares of Tk 90 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 25.90 each, advancing 1.56 per cent over the previous session.

The turnover of Aamra Networks was Tk 84 million. The company's share price fell 1.14 per cent to close at Tk 95.20 each.

Queen South Textile clinched the sixth spot with shares worth Tk 69 million changing hands. The recently listed company's share price closed at Tk 28.90, slumping by 8.83 per cent.

Monno Ceramic saw its shares worth nearly Tk 65 million changed hands. The company's share price fell 1.89 per cent to close at Tk 134.90 each.

The turnover of BBS Cables was Tk 64 million. Each share of the company closed at Tk 73.20 each, losing 6.51 per cent.

BRAC Bank featured a turnover of Tk 54 million. The bank's share price fell 0.11 per cent to close at Tk 91.20 each.

United Power was also included in the top ten turnover chart with shares worth Tk 47 million changing hands. The power generation company's share price fell 0.96 per cent to close at Tk 155.20 each.
