Ibn Sina posts 5.5pc profit drop, offers record dividend

FE REPORT | October 06, 2025 00:00:00

The Ibn Sina Pharmaceutical Industry has declared a record-high 64 per cent cash dividend for the financial year 2025, even as it saw a 5.5 per cent drop in annual profit.

According to a stock exchange filing on Sunday, the listed pharmaceutical company reported a profit of Tk 633 million for FY'25, down from Tk 671 million in the previous year.

The drugmaker's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 20.27, compared to Tk 21.46 in FY'24.

Company Secretary Md. Kabir Hossain told The FE, "Our revenue increased in FY'25; however, higher costs of raw materials, salaries, and financial expenses compared to the previous year led to a decline in profit."

"We are on a recovery path this year and have still managed to declare a higher dividend than last year," he added.

Despite the decline in profit, the company's financial indicators showed notable improvements.

Its net asset value (NAV) per share rose to Tk 125.69, up from Tk 96.68 in the previous year, indicating a stronger asset base.

The company also reported a significant increase in net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS), which jumped to Tk 23.16 from Tk 12.48 a year earlier. NOCFPS is a key metric that reflects the company's ability to generate cash from core business operations.

The company's board has recommended a 64 per cent cash dividend, the highest in its history, subject to shareholder approval at the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for November 23.

The record date has been set for October 26, and the AGM will be held on a digital platform.

Despite the news of higher dividend, Ibn Sina's share price edged down by 0.94 per cent to Tk 304.40 on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Sunday.

Established in 1983, Ibn Sina is a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer in Bangladesh, producing a wide range of modern and herbal medicines for both domestic and export markets.

The company has a paid-up capital of Tk 312.44 million and an authorised capital of Tk 500 million.
