Increase egg production to build healthier nation, urge experts

Livestock experts and officials at a post-rally discussion in Rangpur on Saturday stressed the need for increasing production and consumption of egg to fulfill demand of nourishment to build a healthier and meritorious nation.
Rangpur divisional office of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) and Bangladesh Poultry Industry Central Council (BPICC) jointly organised the discussion at Town Hall auditorium in the northern divisional city on Saturday, reports BSS.
Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam attended the discussion as the chief guest with Divisional Director of the DLS Agriculturist Md. Habibur Rahman in the chair.
Additional Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension for Rangpur agriculture region Agriculturist Muhammad Ali, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Shahin Ara Haque, District Livestock Officer Dr. Shah Jamal Khondker and President of Rangpur Poultry Industry Owners' Association Akbor Hossain were also present as special guests and spoke.
Habibur Rahman said the poultry sector is flourishing fast to improve rural economy by increasing egg production to meet nourishment of the population contributing to attaining the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
"Consumption of egg is also contributing a lot to ensuring sound health for the people of all ages, including children, adolescents, pregnant mothers and women," he added.
Dr. Shah Jamal Khondker said eggs are being produced abundantly in Bangladesh by adopting latest scientific technologies maintaining maximum safety for public health to meet nourishment of the population.
Agriculturist Ali said the flourishing poultry industry has changed economic conditions of thousands of poultry farmers and common people of Rangpur region in the last eleven years.
"A silent revolution has taken place in the poultry industry in Rangpur region increasing production of egg to meet protein demand of the population along with cutting poverty by creating huge jobs in rural areas," Ali added.
Divisional Commissioner Tariqul Islam urged poultry farmers for increasing egg production and properly supply to local markets to meet nutritional demand of the population for attaining the SDGs by 2030 on way to build a developed Bangladesh by 2041.
