MA Kashem was unanimously elected Chairman of Southeast Bank PLC at its 743rd Board Meeting held on Sunday, says a statement.
Mr Kashem, the founder chairman and sponsor-director of the bank, is also the chairman of Rose Corner (Pvt.) Limited.
He is a member of North South University Trust and a founder life-member of North South University Foundation. He has served as its chairman four times. He is the past Chairman of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh.
A former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Mr Kashem was also the Chairman of Arbitration Tribunal of FBCCI.
Mr Kashem was a member of Board of Trustees of Hamdard Laboratories (WAQF) Bangladesh. He was the President of SAHIC Trust (Society for Assistance to Hearing Impaired Children). He is a life member of SAHIC.
Mr. Kashem is an eminent industrialist, renowned patron of education, distinguished philanthropist and an active social worker. He is a recipient of the 'President Export Trophy Award' for the year 1982-83 and 1983-84.
Mr Kashem received 'C.R. Das Gold Medal' for his excellent contribution to the industrial sector in 1995. He was awarded the 'Highest Taxpayer-2011' in 2016-2017 by the National Board of Revenue (NBR). Recently, he has been awarded Abu Rushd Memorial Award for promoting higher education.
He has established the M. Kashem Trust to promote education for primary and middle school students in his locality. Moreover, a 50-bed general hospital named 'Tareque Memorial-Ibrahim General Hospital' has been established by the Trust in Chhagalnaiya, Feni.
Mr Kashem is a member of Kurmitola Golf Club, Baridhara Cosmopolitan Club Limited, Gulshan Club Limited, Rotary Club of Dhaka West, National Shooting Club and Bangladesh Diabetic Association, and life member of Anjuman Mufidul Islam, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and Shishu Hospital, Chittagong.
