Mutual Trust Bank (MTB) has remained strong due to its good corporate governance amid the challenges facing the country's financial sector, its Managing Director & CEO Syed Mahbubur Rahman said on Tuesday.

"We uphold a strong position for the good governance ensured by our board," he said at a press meet on the occasion of the MTB's 25th founding anniversary at the Samson H. Chowdhury Auditorium, MTB Tower, in Dhaka.

The founding anniversary of the bank will be celebrated tomorrow (Thursday).

When many banks struggled with foreign currency and import payments in 2022, MTB did not face any problem due to its strong governance, said Mr Rahman.

Currently, MTB is not facing any liquidity crisis, unlike many other banksm he added.

The CEO reflected on MTB's 25-year journey, highlighting the bank's role in strengthening Bangladesh's banking sector and economy.

"MTB's success is built on Mutual Trust, and our progress over the last quarter century reflects the strong relationships we've formed with over 1.3 million customers," he said.

"Our commitment to innovation, from launching virtual debit cards to digital nano loans, will continue to guide our future".

The bank is considered the front-runner of digital banking in the country, he said and added: "The platform we have already established and continuously do so. It will help us provide an excellent digital banking to our customers,"

Responding to queries, he said only one per cent of the MTB loans have been non-performing (NPL) over the last several years.

"People trust us because of good governance. Also, deposits have increased significantly in the last few months."

At present, MTB operates with 120 branches, 41 sub-branches, 336 ATMs including 28 CRM, 3,117 POS terminals, 182 Agent Banking Points, 3 Cash Deposit Machines (CDM), 8 Air Lounges, and foreign exchange booths, supported by over three and a half thousand officials.

The weeklong celebration will take place across MTB Centre, MTB Tower, MTB branches and sub-branches nationwide, honouring the contributions of the employees, customers, and stakeholders, as the bank continues its journey of trust and progress.
