Nasir Uddin Ahmed (Pavel), the first vice-president of Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA), was recently elected as the president of the association after the previous president, Sheikh Kabir Hossain, resigned citing a health reason.
Nasir Uddin, who will stay in office until April 8, 2025, as the president was elected unanimously in the 218th executive committee meeting of the association, according to a press release.
BIA is the organisation of the country's insurance company owners and chief executive officers.
Nasir Uddin was the vice-president of BIA for two terms being part of the association's 2021-2022 and 2023-2024 executive committees.
He is the vice-chairman of Meghna Life Insurance Company Limited and Karnaphuli Insurance Company Limited. He is also the chairman of Meghna Life Securities and Investment Ltd.
Moreover, Nasir Uddin is a member of the 'Board of Governors' of Bangladesh Insurance Academy. Besides he is director at Nizam Hasina Welfare Foundation and Nizam Hasina Foundation Hospital.
He participated in different training programmes and seminars on insurance at home and abroad. For the past 14 years, he has been significantly contributing to the insurance sector of Bangladesh being the member of different committees of the Ministry of Finance, Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority and BIA.
He is a former member of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and chairman of the FBCCI Standing Committee on insurance affairs.
He visited Japan, Hong Kong, China, Oman, Russia, Ukraine and Philippines as part of FBCCI's delegations. He is also a Rotarian of the Rotary Club of Dhaka Midtown.
