Pacific Denims leads transaction chart

Pacific Denims Tuesday dominated the transaction chart of premier bourse and the port city's bourse as investors took position on its share on debut day.

Pacific Denims made its share trading debut on both bourse - Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) on Tuesday.

Pafici Denims, ACI Formulations, Central Pharmaceuticals, Islami Bank and Beximco were the most-active shares in terms of value on the premier bourse.

According to the statistics available with the DSE, about 22.75 million shares of Pacific Denims were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 627 million on the day. It was nearly 10 per cent of the day's total turnover value.

The company's share price hovered between Tk 25.80 and Tk 35, before closing at Tk 27 on Tuesday, jumping 170 per cent from its issue price of Tk 10 each.

Analysts said the investors showed higher enthusiasm surrounding debutant Pacific Denims amid short-term speculation. So, it created hype among the investors on the first day of trading.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1.20 billion and authorised capital is Tk 1.13 billion, while the total number of securities is 113 million.

The sponsor-directors own 30.97 per cent stake in Pacific Denims, while institutional investors own 33.12 per cent, foreign investors 0.06 per cent and the general public 35.85 per cent as on June 30, 2016, the DSE data shows.

Pacific Denims was, followed ACI Formulations with about 1.35 million shares of Tk 262 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 197.60, advancing 4.22 per cent over the previous day.

Central Pharma emerged as the third, with about 6.96 million shares of Tk 188 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 7.42 per cent to close at Tk 27.50 each.

Islami Bank was the fourth, with some 3.34 million shares of Tk 138 million changing hands. The bank's share price closed at Tk 41.60 each, advancing 0.72 per cent.

Beximco was the fifth on the DSE's turnover list, with 4.45 million shares of Tk 137 million changing hands. Each share of the company closed at Tk 30.90, losing 0.96 per cent.

Besides, the five most-traded shares in terms of value on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) were Pacific Denims, Beximco, Islami Bank, National Bank and AB Bank.

According to data available with the CSE, some 5.37 million shares of Pacific Denims were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 146.47 million. The company's share price rose 167 per cent to close at Tk 26.70 each.

Beximco notched the second spot, with 548,533 shares worth Tk 16.96 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 30.90, losing 1.28 per cent.

Islami Bank was the third, with 301,339 shares of Tk 12.45 million changing hands. The bank's share price closed at Tk 41.60 each, advancing 0.73 per cent.

National Bank was the fourth, with 742,913 shares worth Tk 10.02 million changing hands. The bank's share price advanced 2.22 per cent to close at Tk 13.60 each.
