Probe begins into CDA project anomalies

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 08: An investigation has been launched into alleged corruption and other anomalies in 13 development projects undertaken during the tenure of former chairman of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) Abdus Salam.

Meanwhile, a five-member committee has started work through issuing a letter to CDA officials.

Kamal Uddin, additional secretary at the Monitoring Division under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, is leading the committee.

The committee will visit the CDA and talk with the officials next week and investigate the alleged irregularities in the CDA projects.

Meanwhile, the committee sent a letter to CDA officials concerned to submit the 13 project feasibility report, implementation monitoring evaluation department report, tender documents, contractor selection process documents and PEC for the ECNCEC received by Abdus Salam.

Abdus Salam served as a CDA chairman from 28 April 2009 to 22 April 2019.

In the 10 years, he undertook around 30 projects - some small and some mega. The committee will investigate any anomalies in 13 projects, out of 30.

In an office order signed by CDA Secretary Rabindra Chakma, it is said that an investigation committee has been formed to investigate the irregularities in the projects.

The projects, which are under investigation, include Elevated Expressway, Bahaddarhat Flyover, Muradpur Flyover, Kadmatoli Flyover, Water Drainage Project, Kalurghat-Chaktai Ring Road Project, Baklia Access Road, Chattogram City Outer Ring Road, CDA Square, Kalpataru Project, Saltgola Dormitory, Chattogram Metropolitan Master Plan and Bayezid Link Road Project.
