Reforms help restore investors' confidence: BSEC chairman

Investors' confidence in the capital market has been restored following the regulatory reforms undertaken by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).
The BSEC has taken regulatory measures to avert any untoward situation in the capital market like that in 2010.
BSEC Chairman Prof Dr M Khairul Hossain came up with this comment while addressing a seminar on 'Prospects and Challenges of Development of Capital Market' in the city recently as the chief gust, according to a statement.
The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) arranged the seminar at the ICMAB Ruhul Quddus Auditorium, marking the 'World Investors' Week-2017.
Arif Khan, FCMA, Past President of ICMAB and CEO & Managing Director of IDLC Finance Ltd, presented the keynote paper of the seminar. ICMAB President Jamal Ahmed Choudhury presided over the seminar.
Prof Md Helal Uddin Nizami and Prof Dr Swapan Kumar Bala, Commissioners of BSEC, and KAM Majedur Rahman, Managing Director of Dhaka Stock Exchange, were present at the programme as the discussants.
Khairul Hossain said any unwanted incident like what occurred in 2010 in the capital market would not happen in future as proper regulatory measures have already been taken by BSEC. Investors' confidence in the capital market was restored following the regulatory reforms.
One should invest in share market after doing proper analysis of financial statements, he added.
ICMAB Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Khan gave the vote of thanks in the seminar. A large number of fellow, associate members and students of the institute attended the seminar.
