State-owned commercial bank, Rupali Bank Limited (RBL) has reintroduced its first logo of 1972.

The Chairman of the RBL Board of Directors, Monzur Hossain and Managing Director (MD) & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Md Ataur Rahman Prodhan unveiled the logo Tuesday at a ceremony, held at the bank's headquarters in the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ataur Rahman said the logo has been reintroduced from the existing one to showcase the positive changes made in overall operations of the bank.

"2017 was a year of turn-around for us, when we really have done so," he said.

He also said "We earned a profit of Tk 5.37 billion in the last year, whereas we incurred a loss of Tk 1.0 billion in 2016."

He said RBL will be a leading bank in 2018 adding that amount of default loans and number of loss-making branches have been minimized significantly.

A red border line encircles a green banyan tree in the RPL's new logo, which was approved by the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1972. Later, the logo was modified for many years till 2009.

In his speech, Monzur Hossain said the banyan tree depicted in the logo is a symbol of economic activities in rural Bangladesh.

"In the past, the hats (weekly market) and village fairs used to take place under the banyan trees," he said, adding that the tree also symbolises the endurance of something.

Mentioning the bank's success in recent years, he said only 33 branches incurred loss in the last year, however the number of such branches were 144 two years ago.
