Sensex rises 512 points

The Indian equity benchmarks closed at record highs on Friday led by gains in Larsen & Toubro, Tata Consultancy Services, HDFC, UltraTech Cement, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Bharti Airtel. The benchmarks edged lower in morning but rebounded later in the day owing to buying at lower levels. The Sensex rose as much as 512 points from the day's lowest level to hit an intraday high of 56,188, 10 points shy of all-time high of 56,198.13 and Nifty 50 index touched an intraday high of 16,704.65.

The Sensex rose 176 points to close at record high of 56,125 and Nifty 50 index advanced 68 points to close at an all-time high of 16,705.

Ten new shares were added to the futures & options (F&O) segment from today. Can Fin Homes, Dixon Technologies, Hindustan Aeronautics, Indian Energy Exchange, Indiamart Intermesh, IPCA Laboratories, MCX, OFSS, Polycab India and Syngene International were added to F&O segment.

Buying was visible across the board as all the 15 sector gauges compiled by the National Stock Exchange ended higher led by the Nifty Metal index's 1.6 per cent gain. Nifty Pharma, PSU Bank, Realty, Consumer Durables, Media, IT and Financial Services indexes also rose between 0.45-1.4 per cent.
