Shawkat Ali Khan joins Padma Bank as chairman

Md. Shawkat Ali Khan, the chief executive officer and managing director (MD) of Sonali Bank, has been appointed as the new chairman of Padma Bank.

He chaired the 120th board meeting at Padma Bank's head office in the capital's Gulshan on Wednesday.

Mr. Khan served as MD of Bangladesh Krishi Bank before joining Sonali Bank, according to a press release.

With a career spanning 26 years, Mr. Khan started his professional journey in the banking sector in 1998 as a senior officer of Rupali Bank and was later promoted to the bank's deputy managing director.

Mr. Khan was awarded by the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance for his contribution in the formulation of Govt. Employee House Building Loan Policy with the collaboration of all state-owned commercial banks.

Md. Shawkat Ali Khan completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in chemistry from Jahangirnagar University and a MBA (Major in Banking) from Dhaka University.

Moreover, he is a 'Diplomaed Associate' of the Institute of Bankers Bangladesh (IBB). He has participated in numerous training courses, seminars, and workshops both locally and internationally. He has a multidimensional experience through visiting countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and India.
