A vessel named MV Evita carrying 56,890 tonnes of US wheat has arrived at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Sea Port under a government-to-government (G2G) contract between the United States and Bangladesh, reports BSS.

The wheat was imported under a cash purchase contract No. G2G-2 in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the governments of the United States and Bangladesh, an official release of the food ministry said on Sunday.

Under the G2G-2 agreement, a total of 220,000 tonnes of wheat will be imported, with the current shipment being the first consignment.

Of the 56,890 tonnes, 34,134 tonnes will be unloaded at Chattogram Sea Port, while the remaining 22,756 tonnes will be offloaded at Mongla Sea Port.

The process of testing wheat samples from the shipment has already begun. After the completion of these tests, measures will be taken to unload the wheat promptly.

This new shipment follows the G2G-1 agreement, under which a total of 220,000 tonnes of wheat has already been imported into Bangladesh.
