October 09, 2019 00:00:00

Investors in the Shreehatta Economic Zone (EZ) will start setting up industries soon as the development work of the economic zone (EZ) is going on fast, reports BSS.

The information was revealed at a seminar on 'Shreehatta EZ development' at a hotel in Moulvibazar district, said a press release in Dhaka.

Prime Minister's Principal Secretary M Nojibur Rahman attended the seminar as the chief guest.

Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) Paban Chowdhury presided over the seminar where Executive Chairman of the National Skills Development Authority M Maruf Hossain was also present.

Addressing the programme, Nojibur Rahman said Bangladesh has become an attractive place for investment as the government is providing all sorts of facilities to the investors in the country.

He urged the investors to set up industries in the EZ as early as possible for creating employment opportunities.

Paban Chowdhury said BEZA is establishing green economic zones across the country for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

"Gas connection has already been provided in the Shreehatta EZ. Other facilities will also be ensured soon.

Investors can start activities for setting up their factories in the EZ soon," he added.

Shreehatta EZ is located on 352 acres of land in Sherpur Sadar upazila. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of Shreehatta EZ's development work in February, 2016.

The zone will play an important role in decentralisation of industries and employment of about 44,000 people of Sylhet division.

In March, 2017, investment proposals were invited to invest in Shreehatta EZ and in the meantime, half a dozen entities were allotted 231 acres of land. There are proposals worth investment of about US $1.4 billion from the six companies.
