FE REPORT | June 09, 2026 00:00:00

Naser Ezaz Bijoy

After nearly nine years as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Standard Chartered Bank, Naser Ezaz Bijoy has stepped down from his role at the foreign bank operating in Bangladesh.

Confirming the development, Bitopi Das Chowdhury, country head of corporate affairs and brand & marketing at the bank, said Bijoy was stepping down from his current role (subject to regulatory approval) as the CEO after nine years, but would continue his employment of over 33 years at the bank.

In a press release, the bank stated that Bijoy decided to focus on other priorities, due to personal reasons, till his next role was announced in due course.

He will hand over his CEO responsibilities to Md Enamul Huque, currently the country chief risk officer & senior credit officer.

Huque will act as the interim CEO.

Bijoy told The Financial Express his extended tenure as the CEO would expire on November 7, but he decided to step down early so that the new leadership could prepare plans and strategies before implementing those.

"I want to focus on other areas of banking operations as I still have three more years until retirement. So I will continue as an employee of the bank," he added.
