Stocks witnessed yet another positive session Sunday, extending the gaining streak for the fourth straight session, as a group of investors continued their buying appetite on sector specific issues.

Market operators said the winning spell extended as a section of investors remained active on the lucrative price level in sector specific stocks.

However, the turnover came down below Tk 4.0 billion-mark again as institutional investors could not support the market more because of ongoing liquidity shortage in the financial market, said an analyst at a leading brokerage firm.

The market opened on optimistic note and the key index of the country's prime bourse crossed the 5,900-mark after gaining 50 points within first hour of trading.

But, most of the early gains croded as the session progressed amid profit booking sale pressure and finally ended more than 12 points higher.

DSEX, the core index of the DSE, went up by 12.55 points or 0.21 per cent over the previous session to settle at 5,883.

According to International Leasing Securities, the week stated with optimism, following the previous session's up surge, but in the middle of the trading session investors booked quick-gain form specific issues, finally closed at 12.6 points green.

"Investor showed their buying interest in engineering, financial institution and food sectors stocks while some of the investors sold their position from cement, pharmaceutical and banking sectors issues," the stockbroker said.

The stockbroker noted that banking sector lost its domination in the turnover chart as investors decided to observe the banking sector issues ahead of year-end financial declarations.

The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 334 issues traded, 178 closed higher, 109 drifted lower and 47 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Port city bourse CSE also ended higher with its CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -gaining 93 points to settle at 18,172 and Selective Categories Index - CSCX - advancing 57 points to finish at 10,969 points.

Here too, the gainers beat the losers as 144 issues closed higher, 53 fell and 34 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 6.87 million shares and mutual fund units worth more than Tk 177 million in turnover.
