Ten cos account for 26pc transactions on DSE

Al-Arafah Bank tops turnover chart

The top 10 most-traded companies accounted for over 26 per cent of transactions on the country's major bourse on Thursday, with Al-Arafah Islami Bank making its way to the top of the turnover chart.

Market insiders said investors were active in collecting Al-Arafah Bank shares throughout the trading session amid positive expectations about its year-end dividend.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 5.01 million shares of Al-Arafah Bank were traded, generating a turnover of over Tk 124 million, making up 4.55 per cent of the premier bourse's total transactions.

The total turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) stood at Tk 2.74 billion, down 32 per cent from the previous day's turnover of Tk 4.05 billion.

The bank's share traded between Tk 24.30 and Tk 25.10, before closing 1.63 per cent higher at Tk 25.

In the last one year, the bank's share price hovered between Tk 16.40 and 27.70.

The bank's consolidated earnings per share (EPS) in the July-September quarter (Q3) 2017 stood at Tk 0.60 as against Tk 0.57 for the same quarter a year ago.

In the nine-month period from January to September of 2017, the bank's consolidated EPS was Tk 1.80 as against Tk 1.71 for the same period of 2016.

Listed in 1998, the bank disbursed 20 per cent cash dividend for shareholders for the year ending on December 31, 2016.

Other most-traded shares in terms of value included Monno Ceramic Industries, Square Pharmaceuticals, ACI, Grameenphone, IFAD Autos, Nahee Aluminum, BD Thai Aluminium, Apex Foods and Mercantile Bank.

Monno Ceramic featured a turnover of Tk 102 million. Its share closed at Tk 151.60, advancing 1.61 per cent.

The ceramic company's share price hovered between Tk 36 and Tk 154.10 in the last one year.

Square Pharmaceuticals came in next, with shares worth Tk 98 million changing hands. The pharma company's share price inched down by 0.19 per cent to close at Tk 316.10.

ACI clinched the fourth spot, with shares worth Tk 74 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 1.89 per cent to end at Tk 389.40.

Grameenphone emerged the fifth, with shares worth Tk 72 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 489.20, shedding 0.06 per cent over the previous day.

IFAD Autos saw its shares worth Tk 56 million change hands. The company's share price fell 1.40 per cent to close at Tk 119.50.

The turnover of Nahee Aluminum was Tk 50 million. Each share of the company closed at Tk 54.60, losing 2.32 per cent over the previous day.

BD Thai featured a turnover of Tk 49 million. The company's share ended 0.73 per cent lower at Tk 27.

The turnover of Apex Foods was Tk 47 million. The company's share shed 1.13 per cent to close at Tk 210.10.

Mercantile Bank also found its way to the top ten turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 46.60 million changing hands. The bank's share price advanced 1.91 per cent to close at 21.30.
