National Tubes tops turnover chart

Ten cos account for 27pc turnover on DSE (2019-10-23)

Ten most traded companies accounted for more than 27 per cent of transactions on the prime bourse on Tuesday.

National Tubes generated the highest turnover.

Market analysts said a section of investors sold National Tubes shares throughout the session as its share price soared more than 22 per cent within a month.

Accordingly, the state-run company's share price plunged 9.78 per cent to close at Tk 160.50 on Tuesday. Its share price was Tk 196.60 a month ago.

According to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) data, some 860,432 shares of National Tubes were traded, generating a turnover of nearly 144 million, which was 4.99 per cent of the day's total turnover of Tk 2.88 billion.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at negative Tk 0.96 for July 2018-March 2019 as against negative Tk 2.24 for July 2017-March 2018.

The National Tubes, which was listed on the DSE in 1989, disbursed 10 per cent stock dividend in 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 316.56 million and authorised capital is Tk 1.0 billion while total number of securities is 31.65 million.

The sponsor-directors own 0.05 per cent stake in the company, while the government owns 51 per cent, institutional investors own 20.14 per cent and the general public 28.81 per cent as of August 31, 2019, the DSE data showed.

United Power came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 93 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 0.77 per cent to close at Tk 286.40 each.

Monno Jute Stafflers clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 78 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 1,149.20 each, losing 6.25 per cent over the previous day.

Silco Pharmaceuticals emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 77 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 0.81 per cent to close at Tk 37.30 each.

Eastern Insurance notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 72 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 50.60 each, losing 5.07 per cent.

The turnover of Renata was Tk 70 million. The company's share closed at Tk 1307.80, gaining 0.31 per cent.
