Ten firms grab 29pc of weekly turnover

Beximco shines for seventh week on DSE

Ten most-traded companies accounted for 29 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in the week to Thursday, with Beximco maintaining its dominance on the turnover list for the seventh straight week.

Beximco, the flagship company of Beximco Group, continued to top the turnover chart as investors were active in both buying and selling the company's shares, market insiders said.

According to the DSE data, some 39.44 million Beximco shares were traded during the week, generating a turnover of Tk 4.77 billion, which was 6.88 per cent of the week's total turnover.

The week's total turnover stood at Tk 69.34 billion on the prime bourse as against Tk 28.39 billion as this week saw five trading days instead of previous week's three.

Beximco's share closed at Tk 119.10 on Thursday, losing 1.33 per cent over the week before. The company's share, however, soared to record high at Tk 187.90 on November 11, 2021.

Orion Pharma came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 3.44 billion changing hands during the week. The drug maker's share jumped 21.68 per cent to close at Tk 108.90 on Thursday.

Bangladesh Shipping Corporation clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 1.83 billion changing hands. The state-run corporation's share closed at Tk 123.90 on Thursday, rising 4.82 per cent over the previous week.

LafargeHolcim emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 1.79 billion changing hands. The multinational cement maker's share closed at Tk 74.90 on Thursday, gaining 1.35 per cent.

Delta Life Insurance notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 1.68 billion changing hands. The life insurer's share rose 9.06 per cent to close at Tk 155.30.

Turnover of IPDC Finance was Tk 1.53 billion. The company's share price jumped 23.10 per cent to close at Tk 76.20 on Thursday.

Olympic Industries featured a turnover of Tk 1.51 billion. Its share closed at Tk 135.80, gaining 6.76 per cent over the previous week.
