Ten firms grab one-third of DSE turnover

Fortune Shoes shines on weekly turnover list

The ten most-traded stocks accounted for nearly one-third weekly transactions, with Fortune Shoes dominating the Dhaka Stock Exchange's (DSE) turnover board this week.

Market operators said Fortune Shoes topped the turnover list amid an influx of buyers and sellers as the footwear manufacturer posted an impressive earnings growth in the latest quarter.

According to statistics available with the DSE, some 36.97 million shares of Fortune Shoes were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 5.01 billion, which was 8.41 per cent of the week's total turnover.

The shoemaker's share closed at Tk 134.50 on Thursday, rising 10.88 per cent over the week before. Its shares traded between Tk 15.90 and Tk 141 in the last one year.

Fortune Shoes also witnessed an unprecedented price hike and increase in volume of shares although there is no undisclosed price sensitive information.

The company's share price jumped over 136 per cent or Tk 77.50 each in the last six months since August 19, 2021.

Fortune Shoes posted a massive 276 per cent increase in its second quarter (Q2) earnings for October-December 2021, compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) jumped to Tk 0.79 for October-December 2021, as against Tk 0.21 in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The shoemaker's EPS for six months also rose to Tk 2.08 for July- December 2021 by a whopping 220 per cent from Tk 0.65 in the corresponding period.

The company disbursed 10 per cent cash and 5.0 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2021. In 2020, it provided 5.0 per cent cash and 5.0 per cent stock dividends.

Beximco came second on the weekly turnover list, with shares worth Tk 4.07 billion changing hands. The company's share price rose 2.51 per cent to close at Tk 150.90 each on Thursday.

Orion Pharma clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 2.46 billion changing hands. The pharma company's share closed at Tk 111.10, losing 1.94 per cent.

Bangladesh Shipping Corporation emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 2.25 billion changing hands. The state-run company's share price dropped 6.17 per cent to close at Tk 132.40 each on Thursday.

Saif Powertec notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 1.10 billion changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 42.60 each, losing 5.33 per cent over the previous week.

Rahima Food Corporation featured a turnover of Tk 897 million. The company's share price jumped 5.71 per cent to close at Tk 359.30 on Thursday.

The turnover of Yeakin Polymer was Tk 844 million. The company's share price advanced 2.81 per cent to close at Tk 25.60 each.

Sonali Paper & Board Mills featured a turnover of Tk 818 million. The company's share closed at Tk 712.80 each, shedding 1.98 per cent.

The turnover of National Life Insurance was Tk 809 million. The life insurer's share rose 5.43 per cent to close at Tk 219.50 each on Thursday.

Anwar Galvanizing also made its way to the week's top turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 808 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 441 each, soaring 8.84 per cent over the week before.
