Ten top-traded cos clinch 33pc transaction

GP, BRAC Bank, United Power top turnover chart

Ten top-traded companies captured nearly 33 per cent transaction on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Wednesday with Grameephone topping the list for the second consecutive session.

Market operators said investors continued to bag profit on GP shares as the company's first quarter earnings failed to meet investors' expectation.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 666,367 shares of GP were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 315 million, which was 6.49 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

GP's shares traded between Tk 469.40 and Tk 477.70 each, before closing at Tk 473, losing further by 0.27 per cent over the previous day.

GP's net profit fell 2.50 per cent year-on-year to Tk 6.39 billion in January-March quarter of 2018. Earnings per share (EPS) also declined to Tk 4.74 in January-March quarter of 2018 from Tk 4.86 in the same period a year ago.

In 2017, the leading mobile phone company recommended 100 per cent final cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2017. And the total dividend will be 205 per cent as the company already paid 105 per cent interim cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2017.

In 2016, the company disbursed a total 175 per cent cash dividend.

Apart from GP, the most other active shares in terms of value included BRAC Bank, United Power, Beximco, Square Pharmaceuticals, Keya Cosmetics, UCB, Al-Arafah Islami Bank, Pharma Aids and Queen South Textile.

BRAC Bank came next, with shares worth Tk 239 million changing hands. The bank's share price fell 0.58 per cent to close at Tk 85.80 each.

United Power was third on the turnover list with shares worth Tk 223 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 191.50, soaring 2.90 per cent over the previous day.

Beximco clinched the fourth spot, with shares worth Tk 200 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 30.70, remaining unchanged over the previous day.

Square Pharma emerged fifth with shares worth Tk 121 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 0.13 per cent to close at Tk 310.80 each.

Keya Cosmetics also saw its shares worth Tk 112 million change hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 10.10, falling 0.98 per cent over the previous day.

The turnover of UCB was Tk 104 million. Each share of the bank closed at Tk 20.80, rising 7.77 per cent over the previous day.

Al-Arafah Islami Bank featured a turnover of Tk 101 million. The bank's share price fell 0.75 per cent to close at Tk 26.60 each.

The turnover of Pharma Aids was Tk 91 million. The company's share price rose 3.74 per cent to close at Tk 502.30 each.

The recently listed Queen South Textile also found its way to the top ten turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 89 million changing hands. The company's share price jumped 8.63 per cent to close at 36.50 each.
