Ten top-traded companies captured nearly 31 per cent transactions on the country's major bourse Monday.
Square Pharmaceuticals topped the list for the second straight day.
Market insiders said fundamentally-sound issues like GP and Square Pharmaceuticals continued to attract investors who are expecting positive quarterly earnings and dividend declarations in the days ahead.
The board of directors of GP held a meeting on Monday to consider, among others, audited financial statements of the company for the year ended on December 31, 2017.
On the other hand, the board of directors of Square Pharma will hold a meeting today (Tuesday) to consider, among others, un-audited financial statements of the company for the second quarter (Q2) period ended on December 31, 2017.
According to statistics available with the DSE, about 638,241 shares of Square Pharmaceuticals were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 209 million, which was 5.06 per cent of the Dhaka bourse's total transactions.
The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 4.13 billion, which was 15 per cent higher than the previous day's turnover of Tk 3.59 billion.
Square Pharma, the second largest market-cap company's share price hovered between Tk 322 and Tk 330.50, before closing at Tk 330, gaining 1.75 per cent over the previous session.
Apart from Square Pharma, the most other active shares in terms of value included National Bank, Grameenphone, Nahee Aluminum, Paramount Textile, Alif Industries, BD Finance, Monno Ceramic, Brac Bank and IFAD Autos.
The National Bank followed next, with shares worth Tk 205 million changing hands. The bank's share price closed at Tk 13.40, advancing 3.88 per cent over the previous day.
Grameenphone clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 177 million changing hands. The country's largest market-cap listed company's share price rose 0.98 per cent to close at Tk 510.30.
Nahee Aluminum emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 109 million changing hands. The composit panel manufacturer's share price closed at Tk 64.30, soaring 9.91 per cent. It was also the day's top gainer.
Paramount Textile saw its shares worth Tk 108 million change hands. The textile company's share price advanced 0.43 per cent to close at Tk 46.90.
The turnover of Alif Industries was Tk 97 million. Each share of the company closed at Tk 107.60, jumping by 8.25 per cent over the previous day. The company started its share trading in 'A' category from 'Z' category from Tuesday. It was also the day's second highest gainer.
The turnover of BD Finance was Tk 96 million. Each share of the company closed at Tk 23.60, gaining 2.61 per cent over the previous day.
Monno Ceramic Industries featured a turnover of Tk 95 million. The company's share price jumped 6.48 per cent to close at Tk 110.10. It was the day's third highest gainer.
The turnover of Brac Bank was Tk 92 million. Each share of the bank closed at Tk 92, losing 1.16 per cent over the previous day.
IFAD Autos was also found its way to the top ten turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 90 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 131.90, remaining unchanged over the previous day.
