Ten top-traded companies accounted for 34 per cent transactions on the country's major bourse Wednesday. Beximco Pharmaceuticals topped the list.
Market operators said investors were active on buying shares of stocks including Beximco Pharma, LankaBangla Finance and Usmania Glass Sheet Factory, taking the advantage of low prices after sharp correction in index in recent days, which helped them grab the top 10 list.
According to statistics available with the DSE, about 2.51 million shares of Beximco Pharmaceuticals were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 280 million, which was 7.03 per cent of the Dhaka bourse's total transactions.
The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 3.98 billion, which was 23 per cent lower than the previous day's eight months' lowest turnover of Tk 3.23 billion.
The Beximco Pharma also posted 13 per cent growth in earnings per share (EPS) in the October-December, 2017 period. The EPS was Tk 1.66 for the period against Tk 1.47 for same period a year ago.
The pharma company's share price hovered between Tk 108.10 and Tk 113.50, before closing at Tk 111.10, gaining 1.91 per cent over the previous session.
Apart from Beximco Pharma, the most other active shares in terms of value included LankaBangla Finance, Usmania Glass Sheet Factory, City Bank, Square Pharmaceuticals, Alif Industries, Pharma Aids, Monno Ceramic Industries and Grameenphone.
LankaBangla Finance followed next, with shares worth Tk 259 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 40.70, advancing 0.24 per cent over the previous day.
Usmania Glass clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 127 million changing hands. The state-run company's share price rose 7.10 per cent to close at Tk 117.60. It was also the day's highest gainer.
International Leasing emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 123 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 21, shedding 4.11 per cent.
City Bank saw its shares worth Tk 120 million change hands. The bank's share price advanced 0.23 per cent to close at Tk 42.80.
The turnover of Square Pharma was Tk 118 million. Each share of the company closed at Tk 325.20, gaining 0.25 per cent over the previous day.
Alif Industries featured a turnover of Tk 94 million. The company's share price advanced 1.59 per cent to close at Tk 114.70.
The turnover of Pharma Aids was Tk 86 million. Each share of the company closed at Tk 469, losing 1.26 per cent over the previous day.
Monno Ceramic featured a turnover of Tk 82 million. The company's share price advanced 1.85 per cent to close at Tk 121.30.
Grameenphone was also found its way to the top ten turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 74 million changing hands. The largest market cap company's share price closed at Tk 497.10, gaining 0.30 per cent over the previous day.
