Ten-traded cos snare 28pc turnover

United Power tops the chart for third straight day

Ten most-traded companies captured nearly 28 per cent transaction of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Monday while United Power topped the list for the three straight sessions.

Market analysts said investors were active on the United Power shares throughout the session amid positive expectations ahead of its June year-end closing.

The news of acquisition of 75 per cent shares of Leviathan Global BD at face value also encouraged the investors.

United Power has decided to acquire 75 per cent or equivalent to 300,000 ordinary shares of Leviathan Global at face value of Tk 10 each, said a disclosure on Sunday.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 430,761 shares of United Power were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 159 million, which was 4.20 per cent of the day's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 3.78 billion on Monday which was Tk 3.38 billion in the previous session.

The power generation company's share closed at Tk 369.30 on the day, advancing 0.19 per cent over the previous session.

The company's share traded between Tk 248.50 and Tk 422.50 in the last one year.

United Power, which was listed on the DSE in April 2015, disbursed 90 per cent cash and 20 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 4.79 billion, authorised capital is Tk 8.0 billion and the total number of securities is 479.08 million.

The sponsor-directors own 90 per cent stake in the company, while institutions 6.64 per cent, foreign investors 0.04 per cent and the general public 3.32 per cent as of May 31, 2019, the DSE data shows.

JMI Syringes followed next, with shares worth Tk 158 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 466.40, soaring 8.38 per cent.

Bangladesh Shipping Corporation clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 114 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 1.57 per cent to close at Tk 51.70 each.

National Polymer emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 99 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 103 each, gaining 7.62 per cent.

RN Spinning Mills notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 97 million changing hands. The company's price shed 5.79 per cent to close at Tk 6.50 each.

The turnover of BRAC Bank was Tk 93 million. The company's share closed at Tk 63.70 each, remaining unchanged over the previous day.

Genex Infosys featured a turnover of Tk 85 million. The company's share price rose 4.97 per cent to close at Tk 52.80 each.

The turnover of Sinobangla Industries was Tk 82 million. The company's share closed at Tk 57.20 each, advancing 2.50 per cent.

Monno Ceramic featured a turnover of Tk 73 million. The company's share price shed 2.27 per cent to close at Tk 210.90 each.

Fortune Shoes also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 72 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 0.56 per cent to close at Tk 35.60 each.
