The IBN Sina tops DSE turnover chart

Ten top-traded cos snare 24pc turnover

Ten top-traded companies captured more than 24 per cent of transactions on the country's premier bourse on Monday. IBN Sina topped the list.

Market insiders said though the market witnessed correction, a section of investors showed their buying appetite on The IBN Sina's shares amid positive expectation in days ahead.

The IBN Sina, one of the leading pharmaceutical companies, posted 16 per cent growth in earnings per share (EPS) in six months for July-December period of 2017 compared to the same period a year ago.

The company's EPS stood at Tk 5.95 for July-December, 2017 as against Tk 5.11 for July-December, 2016.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 643,648 shares of the IBN Sina were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 166 million, which was 4.26 per cent of the Dhaka bourse's total transactions.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 3.89 billion, which was 7.16 per cent higher than the previous session's turnover of Tk 3.63 billion.

The pharma company's share price traded between Tk 253.90 and Tk 262, before closing at Tk 260.20, gaining 2.88 per cent from that of the previous session.

In the last one year, the company's share price hovered between Tk 230.10 and Tk 284.90, the DSE data shows.

The IBN Sina, which was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 1989, disbursed 25 per cent cash and 10 per cent stock dividend for shareholders for the year ended on June 30, 2017.

In 2016, the company paid 37.50 per cent cash and 15 per cent stock dividend.

Apart from IBN Sina, the most other active shares in terms of value included Monno Ceramic Industries, National Tubes, Gemini Sea Food, Unique Hotel & Resorts, Anward Galvanizing, Nahee Aluminum, Alif Industries, LankaBangla Finance and IFAD Autos.

Monno Ceramic came next with shares worth more than Tk 151 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 150.30, rising 4.08 per cent over the previous session. The ceramic company's share price hit record high of Tk 154.10 during the trading session.

National Tubes was the third with shares worth Tk 123 million changing hands. The state-run compnay's share price edged down by 0.07 per cent to close at Tk 139.

Gemini Sea Food was the fourth with shares worth Tk 81 million. The company's share price jumped 6.35 per cent to close at Tk 443.70. It was also the day's top gainer.

Unique Hotel clinched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 80 million. The company's share price fell 2.0 per cent to close at Tk 58.90.

Anwar Galvanizing emerged sixth with shares worth Tk 71 million. The engineering sector company's share price closed at Tk 85.20, advancing by 3.65 per cent over the previous session.

Nahee Aluminum saw its shares worth Tk 68 million change hands. The company's share price advanced 2.75 per cent to close at Tk 52.30.

The turnover of Alif Industries was Tk 68 million. Each share of the company closed at Tk 101.70, falling 0.68 per cent over the previous day.

LankaBangla featured a turnover of Tk 65 million. The company's share price fell 1.11 per cent to close at Tk 35.70 each.

IFAD Autos witnessed transaction worth Tk 64 million. The company's share price fell 1.73 per cent to close at 119.10.
