Tipu urges Nordic countries, China to invest more

‘Labourers are enjoying all types of rights, benefits in BD’

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has urged the Nordic countries and China to invest more in Bangladesh taking the privileges of investment-friendly atmosphere for foreigners, reports BSS.

The minister made the call while the ambassadors of three Nordic countries and the Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh met him separately at his office at the Secretariat in the capital, said a press release.

The Nordic countries' envoys to Bangladesh include Ambassador of Sweden Charlotta Schlyter, Ambassador of Norway Sidsel Bleken and Ambassador of Denmark

Winnie Estrup Petersen.

Referring to the world's largest compliance factory situated in Bangladesh, Tipu Munshi said the country has been setting up more green factories one after another, and workers are working in safety and work-friendly environment.

He also informed the Nordic envoys that the labourers are enjoying all types of rights and benefits.

The Nordic countries' envoys assured him of continuing their trade facilities and other cooperation to Bangladesh.

Later, the newly-appointed Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Li Jiming made a courtesy call on the commerce minister.

Tipu Munshi told the Chinese envoy that Bangladesh expects more Chinese investment and export facilities. He also said if China eases visa for Bangladeshi business people, the bilateral trade between China and Bangladesh will be increased further.

Reciprocating the gesture and comment made by the minister, the ambassador said the Chinese government has taken initiatives to ease visa for Bangladeshi business persons. He also said the Chinese investment in Bangladesh will increase further in future.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Tapan Kanti Ghose was present at both the meetings.
