Top ten cos account for 29pc turnover on DSE

Fortune Shoes tops the chart for second straight day

Fortune Shoes dominated the turnover chart of the Dhaka bourse for the second straight session on Wednesday while ten most traded companies grabbed more than 29 per cent of total transactions.

Market analysts said investors continued to show their buying appetite for Fortune Shoes shares as it posted 41.25 per cent growth in earnings for July-December period of 2018.

The earnings per share (EPS) rose to Tk 1.13 for July-December 2018 as against Tk 0.80 for July-December 2017.

According to statistics from the DSE, about 10.03 million shares of Fortune Shoes were traded, generating a turnover of nearly Tk 385 million, which was 5.40 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 7.12 billion on Wednesday, which was Tk 9.01 billion in the previous session.

The shoe maker's share price closed at Tk 37.50 on Wednesday, losing 0.53 per cent over the previous day.

The Fortune Shoes, which was listed on the DSE in 2016, disbursed 15 per cent stock dividends for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1.24 billion, authorised capital is Tk 1.50 billion and the total number of securities is 124.93 million.

The sponsor-directors own 30.56 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 20.63 per cent and the general public 48.81 per cent as of January 31, 2109.

The Monno Ceramic came in second, with shares worth Tk 352 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 338.10 each, advancing 2.45 per cent over the previous session.

United Power clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 243 million changing hands. The company's share fell 1.89 per cent to close at Tk 398.80 each.

Paramount Textile emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 171 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 73.80, advancing Tk 2.50 each.

Bangladesh Submarine Cable notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 166 million changing hands. The company's share price plunged 1.39 per cent to close at Tk 148.50.

The turnover of LankaBangla Finance was Tk 164 million. The company's share price soared 9.75 per cent to close at Tk 27 each.

Nurani Dyeing featured a turnover of Tk 160 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 19.30 each, gaining 2.11 per cent.

The turnover of Monno Stafflers was Tk 146 million. The company's share closed at Tk 2122.50 each, losing 2.62 per cent.

Legacy Footwear featured a turnover of Tk 128 million. The company's share price fell 2.31 per cent to close at Tk 206.90 each.

Grameenphone also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 127 million changing hands.

The company's share price closed at Tk 392.90, gaining 1.0 per cent after shedding more than 4.0 per cent in the past two straight sessions.
