United Power generates highest transactions

Ten cos grab one-fourth of DSE turnover

Ten most traded companies accounted for one-fourth of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday, with the United Power Generation & Distribution Company making it to the top of the turnover list.

Market analysts said investors were active on the United Power shares throughout the session amid positive expectations ahead of June closing.

According to the DSE data, about 802,919 shares of the United Power were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 301 million, which was 6.75 per cent of the day's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 4.45 billion on Thursday as against Tk 5.54 billion in the previous session.

The power generation company's share closed at Tk 373.20 on Thursday, advancing 0.75 per cent over the previous day.

The company's share traded between Tk 242.50 and Tk 422.50 in the last one year.

The company's un-audited consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 5.19 for January-March 2019 as against Tk 2.40 (separate) for the same period in 2018.

The consolidated EPS was Tk 12.88 for July 2018-March 2019 as against Tk 7.01 (separate) for July 2017-March 2018.

The consolidated net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) was Tk 10.52 for July 2018-March 2019, which was Tk 6.67 (separate) for July 2017-March 2018.

The consolidated net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk 66.29 as on March 31, 2019 and Tk 34.00 (separate) as on June 30, 2018.

The United Power, listed on the DSE in April 2015, disbursed 90 per cent cash and 20 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 4.79 billion, authorised capital is Tk 8.0 billion and the total number of securities is 479.08 million.

The sponsor-directors own 90 per cent stake in the company, while institutions 6.64 per cent, foreign investors 0.04 per cent and the general public 3.32 per cent as of May 31, 2019, the DSE data show.

The Rupali Life Insurance came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 119 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 67.10, gaining 1.20 per cent.

Nurani Dyeing clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 111 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 17 each, remaining unchanged over the previous day.

JMI Syringes emerged fourth, with shares worth Tk 106 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 1.37 per cent to close at Tk 437.60 each.

Eastern Insurance notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 92 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 56 each, shedding 6.97 per cent.

The turnover of Singer Bangladesh was Tk 91 million. The company's share price rose 2.02 per cent to close at Tk 193.40 each.

Monno Ceramic featured a turnover of Tk 78 million. The company's share closed at Tk 222.40 each, losing 0.80 per cent.

The turnover of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company was Tk 73 million. The state-run company's share price fell 0.78 per cent to close at Tk 140.650 each.

Genex Infosys featured a turnover of Tk 67 million. The company's share closed at Tk 50.70 each, advancing 2.42 per cent.

VFS Thread Dyeing also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 66 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 2.29 per cent to close at Tk 53.40 each.
