United Power Generation & Distribution Company dominated the Dhaka bourse's turnover chart last week while top ten traded companies grabbed more than 20 per cent turnover.
United Power has informed that they are going to organise half yearly 2018-19 financial performance disclosure session today (Sunday).
Market analysts said investors showed their buying appetite on United Power shares amid expectation of higher earnings in July-December, 2018.
According to statistics from the DSE, about 5.02 million shares of United Power were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 1.93 billion, which was 3.74 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.
The week's total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 51.71 billion last week, registering an increase of 7.12 per cent over the week before.
The power generation company's share price closed at Tk 391.30 on Thursday, the last trading day of the week, gaining 5.30 per cent over the previous week.
The United Power, which was listed on the DSE in 2015, disbursed 90 per cent cash and 20 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.
The company's consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 3.71 for July-September, 2018 as against Tk 2.23 for July-September, 2017.
The company's paid-up capital is Tk 4.70 billion, authorised capital is Tk 8.0 billion and the total number of securities is 479.08 million.
The sponsor-directors own 90 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 5.43 per cent, foreign investors 0.13 per cent and the general public 4.44 per cent as of December 31, 2018.
Premier Bank followed next, with shares worth Tk 1.62 billion changing hands. The bank's share closed at Tk 16.40, losing 4.09 per cent over the previous week.
Grameenphone clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 1.34 billion changing hands. The largest market-cap company's share advanced 0.68 per cent to close at Tk 398.20.
Eastern Housing emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 1.29 billion changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 61.90 each, soaring 10.54 per cent.
United Finance notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 824 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 10.83 per cent to close at Tk 27.56.
The turnover of Square Pharmaceuticals was Tk 789 million. The company's share price shed 0.64 per cent to close at Tk 263.30.
Eastland featured a turnover of Tk 724 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 21.09 each, soaring 10.76 per cent.
The turnover of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company was Tk 714 million. The state-run company's share closed at Tk 141.70 each, advancing 10.19 per cent over the previous week.
Provati Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 637 million. The company's share price jumped 54.50 per cent to close at Tk 39.40. It's also the week's top gainer.
BBS Cables was also included in the top 10 turnover chart with shares of Tk 633 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 141.70, losing 3.83 per cent over the previous week.
