December 05, 2025 00:00:00

Chairman of Petrobangla Md. Rezanur Rahman and Managing Director of BGFCL Md. Faruque Hossen inaugurated the increased gas supply from Habiganj well No. 5 on Wednesday.

Habiganj well No. 5, operated by Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL), is now supplying around 26 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid following a workover operation that led to increased gas production.

The workover operation is carried out by Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) using its "Bijoy-11" rig, says a press statement.

Previously, the well was producing 14 million cubic feet of gas per day at a pressure of 1,521 PSI. However, through the workover, a new completion string, an X-mas tree, and a sub-surface safety valve were installed, enhancing gas output and ensuring the well's long-term viability.

The workover operation began on October 24 and was completed on December 2. Gas production resumed on December 3 at an increased rate of 26 million cubic feet per day, with the gas being supplied to the national grid.

Md. Rezanur Rahman, Chairman of Petrobangla, and Md. Faruque Hossen, Managing Director of BGFCL, officially inaugurated the gas supply. The event was attended by Project Director Mohammad Ismail Mollah, along with General Managers of BGFCL and other senior officials.

The workover of the well is part of a project titled 'Workover of 7 Wells in Titas, Habiganj, Bakhrabad, and Meghna Fields', which is being funded by the Gas Development Fund (GDF) and BGFCL's own budget.

This project aims to enhance gas production and ensure safe, uninterrupted gas supply to meet national energy demands.
