Ashek takes reins as new UNDP asst representative

The UNDP has appointed Ashekur Rahman as the Assistant Resident Representative (ARR) for its Democratic Governance division in Bangladesh.

Mr. Rahman has been serving UNDP Bangladesh as Head of Poverty and Urbanisation.

Ashekur Rahman brings years of work experience in various national and international organisations, of which a decade he served within the UN system, particularly in the areas of urban governance, social security policies, poverty reduction, civic activism and institutional reforms.

At the UNDP, he led a number of high-impact, successful policy initiatives and projects, notably the implementation of the urban partnership for poverty reduction programme (UPPR) that uplifted millions in cities across Bangladesh and still the legacy continues to serve many more under the Livelihoods Improvement of the Urban Poor Communities Project (LIUPCP).

Mr. Rahman is a political economist and widely known in the development and civil society arena for his deep expertise and insights on the urbanisation, economic, and social policies.

He is a thought leader and appears in different national and international forums, seminars, and knowledge platforms.

He writes op-eds, blogs and analytical pieces on the contemporary development issues for the print media.
