BARI hosts 'Central research review & planning workshop'

The Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) inaugurated the 'Central research review & planning workshop 2025' at the Kazi Badrudduza Auditorium of the institute on Wednesday.

The workshop is designed to evaluate all research programmes undertaken during the last fiscal year (2024-25) and to formulate new research programmes for FY 2025-26, based on the experiences gained, says a press statement.

BARI is currently conducting research on 212 crops. The institute has developed a total of 1,349 crop varieties, including 677 high-yielding, disease-resistant, and various adverse-environment-resistant varieties, along with 672 other production technologies.

As a result of these technological innovations, the production of oilseeds, pulses, potatoes, wheat, vegetables, spices, and fruits has seen a significant increase in the country.

The main objective of this workshop is to assess the suitability of these technologies and to adapt them to meet the current demands of the country. Technical sessions of the workshop will be held from November 11 to 13.

Agriculture and Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury was present as the chief guest while Director General of BARI Dr Md Abdullah Yousuf Akhond presided over the inaugural ceremony. Agriculture Secretary Dr Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian was present as the special guest.

In his speech, Agriculture Adviser said, "We will design our research programmes based on the interests of our farmers. The country and its people will benefit from these efforts."
