Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) inaugurated its 'Internal Research Review & Planning Workshop 2024' at Kazi Badrudduza Auditorium of the institute in Gazipur on Saturday.
This workshop was designed to evaluate all the research programmes conducted in 2023-24 and undertake more research programmes for 2024-25.
Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Dr Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian was present as the chief guest at the inaugural session presided over by Director General of BARI Dr Md. Abdullah Yousuf Akhond, says a press release.
BARI is currently conducting research activities on 212 crop varieties. It has developed 1,344 technologies, including 673 high-yielding, disease-resistant, and environmentally resilient varieties, and 671 additional production technologies.
The innovations spearheaded by BARI have significantly boosted the production of oilseeds, pulses, potatoes, wheat, vegetables, spices, and fruits in the country.
The workshop's primary goal is to assess the effectiveness of these technologies and to align future research with the evolving demands of the agricultural sector.
The technical sessions of the workshop will be held from today onwards.
In his speech, Secretary Dr Emdad Ullah said scientists must advance research efforts to keep pace with current demands. It is crucial to prioritise the development of crop varieties and technologies that are resilient to adverse weather conditions.
Director General Dr. Abdullah Yousuf presented a keynote paper on BARI's research activities and achievement.
Additional Secretary (Research Wing) of the Ministry of Agriculture Afsari Khanam; Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) Dr. Nazmun Nahar Karim and Director General of Department of Agricultural Extension Md. Tajul Islam Patwary discussed the keynote paper.
