Tea Market

Blenders operate strongly for bright varieties

January 04, 2018 00:00:00

Blenders operated quite strongly for bright varieties at the tea market on Tuesday. However, their support for Medium types, particularly the BOP varieties, were much less owing to which there were fair withdrawals in this category.

It was evident throughout the sale that poor liquoring types were being neglected by the buyers which resulted in heavy withdrawals. Loose tea buyers continued to be rather quiet, said a statement.

Dusts were a slightly easier market.

CTC LEAF: As many as 34,004 packages of teas on offer met with a fairly strong demand.

BROKENS: BOPs were a little easier often declining by Tk 2.00 to Tk 4.00 and meeting some withdrawals. Smaller Brokens were fairly strongly supported mostly at firm rates. However, their plainer varieties were often easier with some withdrawals. Mediums saw fair interest but were often easier. Plain varieties witnessed more demand and were mostly dearer. However, there were some withdrawals.

FANNINGS: There was a strong enquiry for all bright Fannings on offer which were generally firm to dearer following competition. Good varieties were firm whilst Mediums met with a little less enquiry and sometimes eased in value with some withdrawals. Plain varieties were a firm feature following more interest and there were also less withdrawals compared to last.

CTC DUST: As many as 7,502 packages of teas on offer met with a fairly good demand. Good liquoring teas were a touch easier following quality. Medium varieties sold at around last levels. However, plainer teas saw fair interest but eased in price with some withdrawals. Once again Blenders were the mainstay of the market. Loose tea buyers operated on clean, well made teas.
